Staff from across the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, covering Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford, are taking part in a virtual challenge to complete a 3,280 mile ‘journey’ across south-east Asia to raise funds for charity.
Colleagues are signing up to the virtual mission in groups of up to ten people, and being encouraged to raise funds for the latest appeal hosted by the Trust’s official charity, NorthCare. The charity is raising funds to build a £1.4 million RAPTOR Theatre inside the new Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital, which will care for seriously unwell patients suffering from major trauma injuries from across the North West.
The challenge involves using the My Virtual Mission app, which tracks the daily activity of each participant using their smartphone, and marks milestones on a virtual map each day to show the collective effort of the team. Staff can log any kind of physical activity on the app over six weeks to help them reach the target number of miles. The ‘journey’ starts in Goa, continues through Dehli and Nepal, before reaching the final destination of Chattogram in Bangladesh.
The challenge is part of a health and wellbeing programme run by the Trust, in partnership with NorthCare Charity. Jess Pollard, Fundraising Officer, said: “We are really pleased to be kicking off the winter challenge in partnership with the Wellbeing Team, and it’s great to see so many teams get behind the RAPTOR appeal.”
One of the teams taking part is the Trauma and Vascular Team at Royal Oldham Hospital, led by Simon Morgan-Robinson, Assistant Director of Nursing.
“The challenge is a great opportunity for us to bond as a team and work together, as well as raising funds for the Trust’s charity. We’re excited to get started and hoping to get the support of our patients, their families and the public to help us raise as much as we can!”
